The Johnson Band finished third (out of 34) at the Bands of America (BOA) Denton Regional Contest, the highest placement the band has received since the school has opened at any Bands of America Regional or National contest.
The Denton, Conroe, and San Antonio BOA Regionals are arguably the most competitive marching band contests in the United States, bringing together UIL State Marching Contest champions and finalists from many years past as well as multiple former BOA Grand National Finalist bands all at the same event. To advance to finals at these contests (top 10) is a huge honor in itself that the band worked very hard towards achieving the first two years we were open, finally earning finalist status during year 3. To place into the top end of these contests recognizes the Johnson Band members as some of the top performers in the country – along side of Grand National Finalist James Bowie High School from Austin, TX (2nd place Saturday), 2010 Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band Winner Hebron High School from Carrollton, TX (4th place Saturday), and the current UIL State Marching Champion Marcus High School from Flower Mound, TX (1st place Saturday).
