With the school year slowly winding down and classes becoming more and more rigorous, many students, as well as teachers, are stressing over preparing for AP tests.
“They are going be the first two weeks in May,” counselor Richard Boeger said. “They are beginning May 4 all the way through May 15. They are either an 8 am exam or noon.”
Though administered by the district, the students are responsible for paying for their own testing fees in order to take the test by completing the online application through parent portal
“Twenty dollars is the regular price and ten dollars for free and reduced lunch [students],” Boeger said. “[Students register] online through parent portal.”
Teachers have been preparing their students all year with worksheet after worksheet and test after test to not only prove that they know what they are doing, but that they are able to explain to others what to do too.
“Once it hits April, all the classes start reviewing and I will start doing stuff then,” senior Natascha Anderson said.
Along with the in-class study sessions, students can utilize outside resources to study on their own time.
“There are free practice AP exams at College Board’s website,” Boeger said. “If they go to a website called AP central, that’s where they will find those practice exams to absolutely prepare for [the tests].”
For most students, preparation and practice are key to passing the exam. These websites can help students become familiar with the various aspects of the test, including the types of questions that will be asked and the timing.
“The other thing is, the exams will help the students who are new to AP exams with the pacing for each section because the ap exams are timed, so they will have to pace themselves for the multiple choice section as well as any short answer or free response sections,” Boeger said. “AP Central gives them actual breakdown of time for each section for the exams. It is free or students can purchase other books from Baron’s or Princeton Review.”
