A week-long festival, colorful decorations, and tons of mouth-watering Mexican delicacies- that’s right, Fiesta is here. From April 14th- April 24th, Fiesta will be held downtown along the San Antonio River Walk. This year also marks the 125th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Some of the festivities include parades filled with music, the coronation of the Queen, the famous Oyster Bake, and many more.
Fiesta is widely known for its detailed, bright floats during the Texas Cavaliers River Parade. This exciting event features traditional music and vivacious flowers surrounding boats on the San Antonio river. Witnessing the beauty of the floats is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
If you want to experience the true essence of San Antonio, then NIOSA (Night In Old San Antonio) is something to experience. This four-day celebration is known for its delicious food, from traditional Chinese cuisine to authentic pan dulce. Besides out of this world food, NIOSA hosts many live music performances from various artists.
One of the most anticipated events of Fiesta is, without a doubt, Coronation of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo. With a grand orchestra and elaborate gowns every where you look, makes this event is truly a night of enchantment and fantasy.
The Oyster Bake is another Fiesta tradition, and 2016 actually marks this event’s 100th anniversary. Many come to San Antonio just to witness this two-day event. You’ll never be starving with the multitude of food booths to choose from. After getting your fill of fried, raw, or baked oysters, you can unwind by listening to everything from Tejano to Jazz.
The Fiesta Flambeau parade is the ultimate light show. This nighttime event features intricate glowing costumes and a huge marching band. Every year, there is a new theme and this year’s theme is “Long Live Texas”. With even more beautiful floats to see, this celebration is truly an evening of fiesta fun.
Sadly, this weeklong celebration eventually comes to an end. That’s why experiencing all of the events and activities that Fiesta has to offer each year is definitely a must.
