JROTC is hosting another blood drive by South Texas Blood and Tissue Center in their building this year.

“The blood drive [is on] Oct. 8. from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. You can sign up for the blood drive at 4th, 5th, or 6th lunch. There is a table set up in the cafeteria,” senior Grace Pierce said.

Donors will have to bring identification along with a parent signature if they are under 18.

“On the day of the blood drive, you need to bring your parent signature form if your under 18. Bring a form of ID. It can be your driver’s license or your student ID or  you can bring a yearbook and show us your yearbook picture,” Pierce said.

Donors will miss one class on Oct. 8 for the blood drive.

“You get to sign up for any class period you want and you will get out of class and you won’t get in trouble for it,” Pierce said.

In order to qualify for the blood drive the donor will have to meet age and weight requirements.

“For the blood drive, you have to be at least 16 and weigh 120 pounds, at least 17 and weigh 110 pounds, or 18 and weigh whatever,” Pierce said.

The donor will undergo an interview at the ROTC building on Oct. 8 with a medical professional concerning their medical history and where they have traveled.

“If you had any previous serious diseases that can be considered contagious you can’t donate blood. If you visited or lived in countries like Germany or Russia for a certain period of time, you can’t donate blood,” Pierce said.
