While the second semester has started, the campus is still working with students to recover credit from their first semester coursework.
“The state of Texas sets requirements for earning credit. They require students to attend a course a certain amount of time (seat time) to gain each credit; the district and CTJ follow those requirements,” Sara Moseley said. “Most credit recovery is online or students have been given packets; students may complete those assignments outside the school day on any day. Students should be meeting with their attendance APs, and sign up for Saturday School to regain attendance hours; they may also do this with tutoring with their teachers and if students turn in work while at Saturday School or tutoring their hours may double,”
The Academy runs from 8 a.m. to 1p.m – a total of five hours.
“We will have students agree to come to the Academy through an RSVP/contract agreement. If a student completes their credit recovery, and no longer needs the Academy, they are not required to attend. (Again, students should be working on credit recovery outside of school hours – they can complete any time) Our goal is to help as many students as possible complete credit recovery and regain credits. As students complete credit recovery, we will invite other students,” Moseley said.
The Academy will be open for six Saturdays during the first nine weeks. It is not open for anyone to show up, students will be invited based on the information teachers get.
“Credit recovery is credited by individual teachers based on what a student failed. Students that are invited to attend Saturday CR Academy, but do not work, will be asked to leave so another student can attend,” Moseley said. “The teachers at the Academy will assist students with credit recovery and re-teach skills needed to help them be successful in regaining 1st semester credit; they are not creating assignments for students,”
