When even the drink selections break the constraint of tradition, you know you’re at the right place. Big House Coffee’s drink
selection ranges from Pina Colada smoothies with just enough sweetness to transport you to some tropical island; to Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate that makes you realize why the Aztecs used chocolate as gold. No matter which you choose to quench your caffeine thirst, you will be satisfied.
Yet, the coffee isn’t the only thing that’s good. If you leave here without trying the waffles, you are missing out on something genuinely special. They are served warm with strawberries, syrup, and whipped cream upon request. I’ve never been the type to label things as perfect, but with these, I’d be a fool not to. They are perfectly moist, fluffy, and crispy around the edges.
But wait, there’s more.
Not only is there coffee brewing; but there is cooking going on a little farther down. An industrial kitchen is set up with everything needed to teach anyone yearning for cooking abilities, or just an excuse to get out of the house. That’s right. Big House is also home to cooking classes. To sign up, you can contact owner Charles Blunt, and he will be more than happy to provide details.
But still, if you’re more enthralled with music than culinary arts, this is a place for you as well. Every Saturday night, from seven to nine, this typically laid-back coffee house transforms into an open mic stage for any willing local artists. Whether you are part of a rock and roll band, you’re pulling it solo, or you get your kick out of being an Elvis impersonator, you will not be turned down.
So gather up your band mates, cooking buddies, or just plain coffee drinkers and head to Big House Coffee. Chances are, you’ll feel right at home.
