College Credit Opportunities Night is Jan. 29 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. This event is open to all grades that want to learn about earning college credit and taking the right classes for their path.
“College Credit Opportunities Night is a chance for students and parents to learn more about ways that students can earn college credit while they are also in high school,” counselor Julie Metcalf said.
Counselors Julie Metcalf Rebecca Hudkins are the hosts of this event.
“There are three main pathways that students can earn college credit in high school. One is by taking AP classes and doing well on an AP exam. The second way they can earn college credit is by taking dual credit classes. And the third way is by taking On Ramps courses through UT-Austin,” Metcalf said.
Taking college credit courses can uplift student grades with multipliers leading to graduation.
“All of those classes do offer a multiplier. So by taking classes that earn college credit, you’re also earning potentially a higher grade with a multiplier. So it definitely could help your grade. It can also help save your family thousands of dollars by taking these classes,” Metcalf said. “The purpose is really for students and parents to understand ways that students can earn college credit in high school and then what steps they need to take to ensure that they qualify and are prepared for that class.”
