Being a student is stressful, but being a student that hates their schedule is even worse. Yet when you’re new to a big scary school, the last thing you want to do is have a formal meeting with an adult you barely know, at least if the student anything like me. Being a teenager is hard, but luckily there’s people specifically hired to hold the lantern through your high school journey and although meetings are scary, counselors don’t bite (at least I hope so). If you need to drop, switch, or squeeze in a missing credit the counseling offices are wedged right with the rest of administration on the first floor A-wing, right by the Welcome Center.
Now that you’re are over one hurdle, it’s time to go over another. How exactly do you meet your counselor? Well, the school wants to make counselor meetings easy for everyone, so luckily most classrooms have a blue poster with a QR code for each counselor and even a code for your VOE form when you’re ready to literally hit the gas. Each counselor is assigned by alphabetical order. To find your counselor and put a face to their name, click here. When they’re ready, a messenger will come to deliver a slip to your class and then you can sign in with the student aids. You can also stop in before school, after school, or during your lunch period.
For juniors, seniors, and ambitious sophomores, your counselor can also help you sign up for dual credit courses. For any questions about classes or your schedule, you can also use an ancient method of communication – email. Your counselor is usually pretty busy, so don’t expect a response instantly.
Generally, you’ll have to meet with your counselors at least once a year, but don’t worry, it is their job to guide you through this busy and constantly changing time.
