Parking in the student, faculty, or visitor lots without proper permissions can lead to a fine.
“So [the fine] ranges from $25 if they park in the student lot to $50 if they park in the faculty or visitor lot,” assistant principal Steven Berg said.
Students that missed the summer deadline can still apply for their permit, but it’s now on a first come first serve basis. In other terms, seniors only get priority when they apply during the summer.
“So students who just now got their license or didn’t apply before [can get a permit] as long as they have their driver’s license, they’re on insurance, and they complete the application, [and] the safe driving pledge,” Berg said. “We do have a waiting list of about eight kids on there right now.”
Most students have an R or regular permit, but a select few that leave campus early or have off campus classes need special ones.
“We do have a few students with a 5 or 6 that allows them to leave during fifth or sixth. And then pals have a special permit as well because they do have multiple campuses throughout the week,” Berg said.
Parents, most sophomores, and students with just a learner’s license do not qualify for a parking permit. However, the band pad may open for additional parking in November.
“We try to keep an eye on parking because we have 581 kids that have bought a parking permit and should be able to park here, so we want to ensure that those 581 have a spot everyday,” Berg said.
