The 2025 graduation speaker auditions will be taking place in the MDR room on March 25 at 4:30.
“There are these flyers around campus, and a QR code, so they scan the QR code and sign up on the Google form. It’s also on the senior web page, which is in NEISD.net sl/Johnson/seniors,” Megan Cobb said. “They have to sign a contract and if they violate the terms of that contract, then they will not be allowed to speak..”
In order to participate, interested seniors must have graduated Cum Lade, Magna Cum Lade, Summa Cum Lade, or be a class officer, a student council officer, or an NHS officer.
“We have a rubric that we go by and it talks about, you know, clarity of the speaking ability of the message,” Cobb said. “It talks about if they are able to project their voice, it talks about mannerisms, it talks about all of those things for public speakers.”
Cobb, among others, will be judging and choosing out of the students that audition based off of said rubric.
“I just think that it’d be cool to do it, I feel like they’re probably going to do something similar to how they’re gonna make them come in there and they’re gonna be like, ‘All right, give us your spiel. What do you guys say?’ And they’ll tell them,” senior Tristen Hoffman said. “People have told me that I should audition. So, given that, I think it would make sense if I were chosen, but I could see others being chosen as well. There’s a lot of good options.”
There are two positions available, Master of Ceremonies and The Commencement. The Master of Ceremonies will oversee introducing platform guests, speakers, and keep the Graduation Program rolling as it should. The Commencement speaker will be giving a speech looking towards the future after high school.
“I think I would speak kind of about some of t what I perceive to be the accomplishments of the graduating class, because we’ve done a lot in our four years here,” Hoffman said. “I think I would talk about kind of just how, you know, we’re graduating, which is a big step, and mention how those accomplishments tie into our readiness for that big step.”
If any students have any questions or concerns pertaining to the auditions they are welcome to email Cobb at MCOBB1@NEISD.NET or visit her room at A353.
