Senior and Junior girls faced off in the annual Powder Puff flag football game that had begun on April 15. The rest of the games finished April 17.
“Powder puff is a football game where the girls act as the football players, and the guys are the cheerleaders,” junior Abigail Blanchette said.
Powderpuff has the traditional American football rules, but the objective is to pull flags instead of tackling.
“At first I was a little nervous because since there is only one junior team almost all of my friends didn’t get selected to do it which was sad,” Blanchette said. “But my sister and a lot of my friends did it last year and I went to watch and I couldn’t wait until it was my turn.”
Senior and junior guys can cheer, coach or ref while the girls participate.
“During practices our coaches have actually put a lot of effort in and even made plays for our team that we were still trying to figure out,” Blanchette said.
This is a long-standing tradition offered to upperclassmen. Johnson has been doing it since they opened.
“I can’t wait for the game,” Perez said. “I did it last year and had a blast and I think this year is going to be even more fun!”
After several games, the light pink senior team came out with the win.
“Super glad I did it,” Perez said, “not only so much fun but I’m happy to be a part of such a talked about tradition with all of my friends. It’s such a good experience we get to have!”
