The new year 2012 will mark the beginning of both fresh and reinstated acts.
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Six years after their last promotion tour, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming back to San Antonio on March 6, 2012. After a reshaping of band formation, where former lead guitarist John Frusciante left and young newcomer Josh Klinghoffer was invited in, the Peppers have gotten their priorities straightened to a point where touring is possible for the promotion of their October album release, I’m With You. The band will perform at the AT&T Center, as they did previously, and tickets are ranging from $40 nosebleeds to a whopping $800 for front row seats by some featured online ticket sellers (Stub Hub, Tickets Now!).
Rammstein – The new year is also ushering into the city the immensely famous, high grossing aficionados of metal, Rammstein. The Berlin artists were once frowned upon in certain venues in the U.S. and even arrested at a concert in the early 2000’s for an act of public indecency and an overuse of pyrotechnics. Apart from the rumors that they are banned from the United States, San Antonio is on the map for their latest world tour, where they will perform on May 24 at the AT&T Center. Tickets start at $96.
The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo – A true Texas tradition, especially in San Antonio. From February ninth through the 25, the AT&T Center will host the rodeo once again for family fun and country-themed delight. Featuring an assortment of activities and sports, the rodeo is always noted for the featured musical entertainment. This year will include such performances by Keith Urban (February 11), Hot Chelle Rae (Feb. 12), Lady Antebellum (Feb. 17), and even Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Feb. 24).
Les Miserables – Hosted by the Majestic Theatre in downtown San Antonio, the praised New York production is on the road to share the tale of the tragic protagonist Jean Valjean and glamor local theatre lovers. The classic musical is based on the 19th century French novel by Victor Hugo about an ex-convict with a heart of gold hiding from the obsessive detective that’s continually bound to capture him. The show will be featured between January 3 through the 8. The songs and message of the story will leave an everlasting impression.
Outside of San Antonio and only an hour away, Foster the People (the band responsible for the hit single “Pumped Up Kicks”) will tour with The Kooks in Austin at the venue “The Backyard” on June 5. Also in Austin, Radiohead will be promoting their new tour at the Frank Erwin Center on March 7.
