The Stock Show and Rodeo 2012 is visiting San Antonio starting on Thursday, February 9th through the 26th. Accompanied by the bull riding is a carnival, a long list of musical entertainment, and volunteer opportunities.
Tickets are on sale now at the AT&T Center SW Box Office on weekdays from 8am – 5pm and 10am – 2pm on Saturdays. You can purchase carnival tickets ($15 or $20, depending on which wristband bought), ground passes, group and individual tickets tickets, and season tickets.
The list of country music entertainers performing at his year’s rodeo goes on and on, but some of the most popular performing are Keith Urban, The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum, Daughtry, and Miranda Lambert. Chris Young will be performing his new album, Neon, on Thursday, February 9th at 7pm. A few performance date and times are: Keith Urban, playing February 11 at 1 and 7:30 pm, then Hot Chelle Ray the following afternoon at 1 pm. The Band Perry is hitting the stage on February 15th at 7 pm. Lady Antebellum is reforming on the 17th at 7:30, with Jake Owens scheduled to play the following day at 1 pm.
“I’m very excited for the rodeo. I got Luke Bryant and extreme bull tickets, then I’m gonna walk the grounds and hangout with friends,” sophomore Austin Moran said.
The rodeo also offers ways to get involved in the community by offering volunteer work and donations. The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo contributes to numerous charity programs around the city and offers a special ticket program, which donates the proceeds to treat local needs. Past beneficiaries have included: Make a Wish, Children’s Shelter, and The Boys and Girls Club. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, applications are available at the official Rodeo website. More than 5,000 volunteer for this event to plan and conduct the Stock Show.
One of the 41 volunteer committees is the Youth Connection, a program exclusively for high school students. It is an organization that teaches commitment involved with putting on the events in the Horse Show area such as barrel racing and checking in PRCA rodeo contestants. Youth Connection hours have been used by many to fulfill organization requirements.
