The Jaguar volleyball team got off to a slow start due to the loss of many key seniors and new players. They opened up their season against Clark and fought hard but came up short 3 sets to 2. Johnson picked up their first win in their third game against Vista Ridge winning 2 sets to 1. The Jags currently are sitting with a 9-11 record but looked to change that in their tournament in Pearland. The Pearland Tournament consisted of 70 plus teams.
“Although we did lose a lot of senior role players, I think we have the ability to do great things this seaso,” coach Kayla Blucher said.
In the Pearland tournament, the Jags had a solid tournament and came out with a 4-4 record. With district right around the corner, the Jags have to fight hard to come out on top.
“My expectations coming into district are not coming second to any team. We are going to take the district by storm,” junior Alex Yarbrough said.
Johnson played their best volleyball of the season so far in the NEISD tournament when they placed second. The Jags faced their rival Reagan in the semi final, both sets were close but the Jags prevailed and swept Reagan 2 sets to none.
“In order to prepare for district, we have to focus mentally and physically, leave pre season behind us and come out with everything we have,” Yarbrough said.
Coming off arguably the best varsity volleyball season thus far, the 2012-13 varsity volleyball team has high expectations to live up to. With last years deep run in the playoffs this year they look to do the same. Johnson was ranked sixth in the pre season rankings and so far have provided a very solid season.
“Coming off our outstanding season, the girls know what it takes to get there, we just have to put in the hard work at practice,” Blucher said.
