Johnson’s cheer squad has its first competition on November 7, and they have been preparing for it for weeks.
“We practice every single day for around an hour and a half to two hours after school; we also have weekend practices,” sophomore cheerleader Kristen Hunt said.
Since it’s their first one of the year, they really need to get their heads in the competition.
“It seems like people when you have a competition you have to have a sense of urgency and have to focus and work as hard as you can because if you don’t you’ll never get used to it,” sophomore cheerleader Alexandra Hutcheson said.
They have a lot to live up to, since last year they did so well.
“Last year we did really well, JV got first in state and varsity got 7th at nationals,” Hutcheson said.
And this competition means a lot for them, for the more practice and more experience they get, the better they will become.
“Each sport has their own goal. In cheer it’s the national rank, and this is just a little step – but each step is really important and matters,” said Hutcheson.
