The aroma of Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, and that sweet scent of pumpkin pie fill the room. For most people that is, but there are those eccentric few that do things a little differently for their Thanksgiving feast.
“My family doesn’t eat the regular Thanksgiving food. My mom likes to make super fancy interesting things to eat. I don’t know what she’s making this year, but I know it won’t be normal,” said senior, Dominque Espinoza-Vargas.
Espinoza-Vargas’s mom has been making interesting meals for the last couple years just because she got tired of the normal tradition.
“My mom is a very eccentric person, so it doesn’t surprise me that she just randomly started making weird stuff,” said Espinoza-Vargas. “Last year she made this super fancy spaghetti seafood, and it would of been so good if it wouldn’t of been so spicy. I ate one bite and was done.”
Espinoza-Vargas likes the new twist on his family’s Thanksgiving feast.
“Although, my mom’s cooking is different and sometimes hard to eat. It’s always fun to see what she comes up and it’s a really good conversation starter. It always makes laugh,” said Espinoza-Vargas.
Junior Taylor Clark’s Thanksgiving feast is also not your traditional meal.
“The last couple years my family has been has been going to McDonald’s just because my mom doesn’t want to spend all that time cooking,” said Clark.
While he says the McDonald’s food is okay, Clark says he misses the home cooked meals his mom use to make.
“I understand my mom doesn’t like spending all that time cooking, but I really miss feeling stuffed on turkey and mashed potatoes,” said Clark.
Clark wants nothing more than to go back to their old ways.
“I just really wish I could be eating turkey this year. I’ve been working since November started to get my mom to change her mind, so I hope it works,” Clark said. “After all the biggest thing about Thanksgiving is the feast.”
