Prom is a time for dancing, being surrounded by friends, having a great time, and most importantly, the dress. Finding a prom dress is one of the most important details about prom, and it can also be the most stressful.
“I think that finding a prom dress is the most important part of a girls prom experience. We girls have to find a dress that hopefully nobody else will wear to prom, and it also has to be fashionable and something everyone else will look at too. Prom dresses should catch the eye of everyone else around you,” junior Brianna Norwood said.
Finding a prom dress is much more than just finding a pretty dress. It is about finding a dress that suits you, while not exceeding the budget.
“Finding the perfect dress is easy because you just have to find one that is more special than all of the others. The hard part about prom dress shopping is the prices. Prom dresses can be extremely costly and it is pretty depressing when you have found the perfect prom dress, and then realize that it’s way too expensive. Then you have to start all over and look for something else in your price range,” Norwood said.
Even though prom dress shopping can be stressful and a lot of pressure, it comes with excitement and pleasure.
“I’m really excited for prom mainly because of the dress. I haven’t found one in specific yet, but I have seen many that will definitely do the job. I think to find your perfect prom dress, you have to know what colors look best on you, and what dress would fit your personality best. For example, one of my friends is wearing a pink and camouflage dress because she is obsessed with camouflage,” junior Quinn Goodman said.
Seeing a dress that is pretty doesn’t always mean it’s the one for you. Trying on dresses before buying them is crucial. Sometimes dresses just don’t go well with certain skin tones. Finding a dress that looks perfect May take some time to find.
“Girls with dark skin tones will look really good in bright colors or a simple black dress. But for light complexion girls like myself, we want to stay away from really dark colors because they will emphasize the whiteness,” Goodman said.
Searching is the fun part, but reality may set in when prices come into the picture. Prom is a special night and sometimes the price is worth it.
“I am in the process of looking for my perfect dress, and it is pretty exciting. It’s fun shopping for a beautiful dress. The only downside is the expense. But in my opinion, it’s worth it. I only get one junior prom, so why not make it the best by wearing a beautiful dress and looking elegant for the night,” Goodman said.
