The Johnson Jaguars closed their 2010 football season with a win over district opponent Lee. Covering over 450 yards in offense and allowing only 86 yards of total offense, the Jags won by a final score of 56-6. With this victory, Johnson picked up its fourth win of the season, taking their district record to 2-4.
The Jags came out of the gates fast. Cohner Mokry made his 15-yard touchdown run at just under four minutes into the game. The Volunteers put a slight scare into the Jags when they scored on a 61-yard fumble recovery that gave Lee its first and only points of the game. However, the Jags fired right back with another rushing touchdown when senior Zach Prevost scored on a ten-yard run.
Neither team crossed the goal line again until the 4:19 mark in the second quarter, when Prevost scored after a 4-yard rush. The Jags took over inside their own five yard line around the two minute mark of the first half, and with just over one minute left, Mokry scored on 94-yard touchdown; a new record at Johnson. The Jags took a commanding 28-6 lead into halftime, and things would only get worse for Lee in the second half.
Johnson, reminiscent of the first quarter, came right out with a quick touchdown when Prevost scored his third touchdown of the game, giving the Jags a 35-6 lead. Just over three minutes later, Mokry threw a 60-yard bomb to senior receiver Matt Matos for a touchdown, in what was Matos’ first touchdown of the season.
The Jags kept it coming in the third when senior quarterback Trey Garcia stretched the Jags’ lead after a 55-yard touchdown run. The Jags entered the fourth quarter with a commanding lead, and with just over five minutes left in regulation, Garcia put the final nail in the coffin with an 8-yard touchdown run, ending the game at 56-6.
Johnson’s defense was dominant Friday night, only allowing six first downs and a total of 86 total yards; 7 rushing 79 passing. Accompanied by an offensive explosion-led by quarterback Mokry, who had 230 all-purpose yards- the Jags finished off their season strong and sent their seniors out in style with a truly unforgettable victory.
