Boy bands are in the midst of an apparent comeback, so the quartet of Mindless Behavior enters the pop genre in good company. My first impression of their sound was its uncanny resemblance to the works of Justin Beiber: singing of love in distinctly prepubescent voices- no surprise, as these guys are only twelve and thirteen years old- over a generic dance track. Holistically, this band is just another studio creation: singing music they didn’t write and and wearing a prefabricated image. The music sounds like the stuff I danced to at Homecoming and hear on Mix 96.1, but neither similarity qualifies Mindless Behavior as anything above the norm. I just don’t see the edge that makes these guys a cut above, but for those already entranced with all things J-14, they may be worth a second look.
