After a tough loss to Clemens in the playoffs last year, the focus was on having a team that goes farther from last year. With adding a few new additions to the varsity, the upcoming varsity players are ready to avenge the senior’s loss. Even this early into the season, the team feels like they are going to go deep into district play.
“I feel like we have a good enough team to go deep into the playoffs this year,” junior Ethan Caban said.
The varsity boys were always looking to make improvements on their play the year before.
“We were just three games in, but I really felt like we’ve have improved so much from the way we played last year,” Caban said.
And even early in district play, the team was starting to reap some rewards.
“Our best win was probably against Clemens,” junior Jacob Hallenberger said. “I didn’t play soccer here last year but Clemens beat us in the playoffs last year. So it was more of a revenge game and we came out on top.”
But a loss still hurts – just some more than others.
“Lee was our worse lost – mainly because it was 0-0 for most of the game and then they scored so late,” Hallenberger said, “A great atmosphere and you wanted to be the team to get that winning goal and it just didn’t come.”
Similar to last year, the team is more of a big extended family, rather than just teammates.
“We are a really tight-knit group of people,” Hallenberger said, “When we go on trips, away games, and tournaments, we act more as best friends and family.”
