Hush is a new horror movie released on Netflix and directed by Mike Flanagan, the same guy who brought us Oculus. The main protagonist in the film is actually deaf, which makes the situation that much scarier.
The story is about a deaf woman who lives in the woods and is trapped inside her house with a psychotic killer outside. The killer could break in at any time, but he chooses to play around a little bit. The two main performances were outstanding. Kate Siegel makes you really get behind her character, and John Gallagher Jr. is very convincing as the crazy guy. Hush doesn’t follow the typical horror movie patterns. The events in the movie always keep it moving, and never bored me. The film didn’t rely on jumpscares, and the main character was smart by trying to think of different ways to try and escape. With the power out, and her phone taken, it’s a tough situation where she’s basically on her own. The movie is very claustrophobic and tense because of this. Despite being deaf, she puts up a fight, and I was really cheering for her to succeed.
Hush is a thrilling and suspenseful movie that will always keep you invested with what is happening on-screen. I really recommend watching this one on a late night.
