On May 1,1718 the city of San Antonio was founded by Franciscan missionary Father Olivares Antonio. The mission was called San Antonio de Valero, this founding began our cities history. Now, three hundred years later, people from all around the city celebrate its founding with a bunch of events dedicated to San Antonio’s history.
From Jan 16 to Mar 1, The Oral History Archive, an online venue founded by Palo Alto college, will discuss the history of not only San Antonio but South Texas as a whole. This event is free seeing as how it is online so check it out if you’re interested in learning more about South Texas’s history.
The Tricentennial Arts & Culture series will be a recurring event starting Feb 1, this event will feature local as well as regional artists and the art will all have a theme. The first theme will be “The River that Remembers” curated by Taylor Bates, the theme of the art will reflect San Antonio’s natural and cultural landscape. Portraits of the high ranking spanish nobility and military officials will be present. The event will cost $10-20 dollars and will be held at the San Antonio Museum of Art. The exhibit will be open during regular business hours from Feb 17 to May 13.
