After a long and stressful school year, it is finally time to put all the books, homework, stress, and sleepless nights behind, and just relax. If your summer plan consists of staying in and binge-watching TV shows, we’ve got you covered.
First aired in Spain in May of 2017, this recent show follows the story of eight thieves that plan the biggest heist to ever occur. With the help of “El Profesor” (The Professor), they lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain, taking hostages and manipulating the police to carry out their plan perfectly. However, as we learn more about these unique characters and their past, we begin to fall for them, adding to the emotional touch of the story. Definitely a good show to binge watch in your spare time that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first episode to the last.
Based on the British show, this American comedy, first aired back in 2005, mocks the documentary style. “The Office” follows the everyday lives of employees at an office in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It depicts the different types of people you could find in an office–there’s the nice guy everybody likes, the antisocial, the arrogant, and the fun guy. Their boss, however, is not your regular boss. He puts fun before work, and is convinced that his employees are his friends first and then his workers. This is a good show to watch if you’re looking for a few laughs, without wanting to commit to a serious storyline.
Lost in Space
This American science fiction series follows the story of a family whose spacecraft crashes into some sort of Earth–like planet on their way to colonize another planet. Their other ship is attacked, and they have no communication with Earth, so they must try to survive with what they have on this unknown planet. Netflix recently released its first season, and it is definitely a good one to binge watch in one sitting if you love adventure.
Aired from 2000 to 2007, this American comedy-drama takes place in Stars Hollow, a storybook town in Connecticut, and follows the story of a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, her daughter, Rory, and the relationship and special bond they share. Lorelai has a difficult relationship with her parents, who always seem to have something to say about her life, while Rory goes to an elite high school and, later on the show, Yale. Its mix of comedy and drama makes this show unique and worth watching.
“Reign” follows the story of Mary, the queen of Scotland, and takes place in the sixteenth century. Throughout the series, she learns how to balance her reponsibilities as queen as well as her personal life, feelings, and relationships. Available on Netflix, the show consists of four seasons, and aired from 2013 to 2017. This is a good show to binge watch if you’re into romance and historical dramas.
Aired from 2002 to 2009, “Monk” follows the life of an American detective who develops OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) after his wife is mysteriously killed by a bomb in a parking garage. Monk, the main character, is positive the bomb was meant for him and decides to investigate more on it. Don’t let this description deceive you though–this show has as much comedy as drama. It is available on Amazon Prime and it’s a good show if you’re looking for a few laughs as well as some intense drama.
