It will come as no surprise that Homecoming like all other events will be curtailed this year – with the campus only electing a court and skipping the annual dance.
“Well, homecoming is not gonna look anything like normal but we are still gonna have a homecoming court so nominations are going on right now. Every student should have gotten an email with a link and the form about the nomination process was attached, and the link on how to nominate is attached so nominations are going on this week…”, student council Kristi Rogers said. “Next week we will be voting on those who are nominated and from there we’ll get the top four vote getters from that pool who are voted on next week.”
Students nominated will have to go through the office checklist to make sure the nominees don’t have any disciplinary infractions such as referrals or I.S.S.
“And then they’ll make up the ballot and then about next week we’ll vote on those four and the top winner of that will be the winner for each grade. So we’ll still do that but it’ll just be all virtual this year,” Rogers said. “Then we’re hoping that during the game against MacArthur on October 16 we will be able to bring the winners from each grade to the field and they’ll be able to be recognized, so we still don’t know if that’s up for sure but we’re still hopeful that we will at least be able to bring the winners to the field and recognize them.”
Homecoming will be a completely virtual event despite not having a dance.
“It’s going to be all virtual, nominate virtually, be voted on virtually, then the court will be announced but only the winners will come to the game.” Rogers said.
Each student will get one nomination for each grade level, and students will be notified on who is in the Homecoming court and winners will be notified ahead of time.
“But whoever is on the court is notified ahead of time because they are on the ballot to be voted on, but the winners will be notified ahead of the game and we would need them to come, they would know ahead of time,” Rogers said.
Every student in-school and learning virtually at home have the opportunity to be part of the voting process.
“People on the court are nominated through the link that we sent out, so everybody can participate, it was sent to every student and it’s happening all week. And then another link will be sent out for voting,” Rogers said. “We’ll send that out again Sunday night or Monday morning, and then voting will take place, and then from those the people with the most votes will make up the court, and then of those four nominees for each grade, one of those will be the winner.”
Even though there won’t be a dance students in school are being offered dress up days for Homecoming week.
“Our theme is “Dancing through the Decades”, since 2020 has been so crazy we are going to go back and celebrate the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s,” Rogers said. “So we’re gonna have our dress up days that coincide with that and we have little designs, like little posters for each dress-up day. The dress-up days are the twelfth, thirteenth fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth.”
