Though students have already completed their course cards for next year, some may need to make changes if they have enrolled in a course that will be cut.
“Course are only dropped for two reasons: a small number of kids sign up for it, or there is not an appropriate staffing for it,” AP Hensley Cone said.
Core classes are usually safe; classes not required for graduation may not generate the student numbers needed to remain.
“It’s your elective courses, and most of them are in Career and Technology that are dropped,” Cone said. “There are lots of courses available; some course are naturally fitting to students. From year to year, student interest changes for courses.”
If a course has been dropped, students who signed up for it will be notified.
“Counselors will let students know soon to switch courses in about two weeks,” Cone said.
Some students believe that courses should not be cut.
“I don’t think any electives should be dropped; it can prepare students for what they want to do [in the future],” sophomore Melissa Brady said.
