As homecoming is coming up soon, students and staff are eagerly anticipating a week filled with spirited activities. This year’s theme, “Johnson City Limits,” takes inspiration from the famous Austin City Limits music festival.
“We wanted to do something that was original to our school,” student council advisor and social studies teacher, David Christie said.
The week will kick off with a pep rally on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the main gym.
“That’s where our football team and volleyball teams and other fall sports will be recognized, and our homecoming court will be announced for the first time to the public,” Christie said.
The homecoming dress up days are: Monday – neon, Tuesday – camo, Wednesday – tie dye, Thursday – favorite music artist and Friday – class colors.
“We just thought that a lot of music festivals were trending, and music is such a big thing in people’s lives now,” student council vice president Lilly Vondohlen said.
One of the unique elements of this year’s event is the live band performing in the cafeteria.
“The newest thing that started last year was that we actually have a live band at homecoming,” Christie said. “In addition to the DJ, the band is entirely student-run.”
The student council has been actively involved in every aspect of the planning process, from selecting the theme to organizing the homecoming court and decorations.
“Every component of homecoming is run by student council,” said Christie. “We hope it is just a way that everybody, regardless of what they’re involved in, can get connected to the school in some way.”
For new students, Vondohlen offers simple advice: “Just let loose and be confident, and just not worry about what others have to say and just have fun while being respective to the rules.”
