On Wednesday, May 18, Johnson High School will host a memorial service for former student Chris Carr. Carr passed away on January 20, 2011. The dedication ceremony will take place at 8:00 AM near the flagstone pathway, which was his Eagle Scout Project as his student.
“Some of the coaches are going to speak, and Mr. Mehlbrech is going to speak as well. A special surprise will be passed out to everyone who attends, and first band and second band are going to play,” Carr’s younger sister, Deanna Carr, said.
Deanna is currently a sophomore at Johnson, and has had to deal with this devastating loss. She and her family have demonstrated great strength over the months, and will be in attendance. They currently maintain a website in memory of Carr.
“The website is posted on his Facebook wall, my Facebook wall and my mom’s Facebook wall,” Deanna said. “It’s pretty much where she’s going to blog, and you can share stories. There aren’t that many pictures, but you can find some pictures, or send some in- and you can share your story.”
The Carr family has also established a scholarship for current students in Chris’ name. The Christopher Clayton Carr Memorial Fund & Scholarship 501 will be announced at the ceremony. It was created to help carry on his memory by rewarding students that exemplify the qualities Carr demonstrated within his student career. It is open to all graduating seniors here at Johnson who are involved in at least one JHS activity and one community activity.
“The scholarship can be found in the counselors office for more information,” Deanna said.
The family is still dealing with this loss and appreciates the support of attendants at the ceremony. All students, friends, alumni and teachers are invited, and Boy Scout Troop 475 Troop Committee Chariperson Larry Ritter will speak briefly about the Eagle Scout project. He will also unveil a special granite marker that will be placed by the pathway.
