With Valentine’s Day two weeks away, one can expect restaurants and movie theaters to be packed full of couples. However, there is a solution if you want to avoid the large crowds of craziness and just want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your significant other. The solution is simple, grab a movie and some dinner to-go and relax at home. There are plenty of Valentine’s day movies that are great for celebrating the annual holiday of love.
If you are into the intense emotion evoking type of romantic film to view than “The Notebook” might be the right film for you. Starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, “The Notebook” is a modern day tale of Romeo and Juliet about forbidden love.
“‘The Notebook’ is one of my favorite Valentine’s Day, romantic movies to watch because it’s the classic love story,” sophomore Vanessa Ruiz said.
Another great romantic film is “500 Days of Summer” starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon, about a young man who falls for a girl who does not believe true love exists.
“‘500 Days of Summer’ is an amazing film to watch on Valentine’s Day or on any other day, because it shows how love really is,” Ruiz said, “It shows that you may fall for somebody but it may not end up the way you want it to, but it’s for the best in the end.”
However, you may not be the type thats into the really emotional chick flicks but would prefer a compromise such as a romantic comedy. The romantic comedy “Punch Drunk Love” is such a film starring the comedian Adam Sandler.
“‘Punch Drunk Love’ is my favorite Valentine’s Day movie because it’s an awkward yet original look on odd romance and meaningful reasons for it, it’s not your typical love story,” senior Sean Encino said.
Some other great movies to view for Valentines Day are “One Fine Day” and the film “Valentine’s Day”. “One Fine Day” is an older romantic comedy made in the nineties starring George Clooney and Michelle Pfieffer. “Valentine’s Day” is a recently released film featuring many popular stars.
“Valentine’s Day is a day to show admiration to someone who you really care about but you should show that same admiration to that person everyday even when its not Valentines day,” Ruiz said.
