Parking lot annoyance

Parking lot annoyance

by Victoria Vogler | News and Assignments Editor

The current amount of courtesy in the parking lot (meaning the fact that there is none) has caused the amount of accidents to rise.

In the state of Texas, courtesy while driving is pretty much non-existent. Our student parking lot is no different. The lot generally consists of teens who have been driving for a month to two years (putting the experience level to a minimum), who think that they are practically invincible. With characteristics like this, it’s no wonder the number of accidents and just lack of overall courtesy seem to be at an all time high.

Now, maybe it’s just because I’ve had to leave at 4:05 more often, instead of close to seven-ish, but I feel like every day on the drive home someone unnecessarily cuts me off, doesn’t let me merge for like, EVER, or, and this really gets me: STANDS IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK to let someone else back out of a parking space. I mean, really people. It’s like you are asking to get hit. Just wait your turn!

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not always the most courteous driver. I let a few people into the long snake of cars, but probably not as many as I should. But by the time I get to merge to leave, I’m just so angry at my fellow student body that I don’t want to let anyone in. But, the thought of standing in front of a truck has never occurred to me.

So here’s my solution. Everyone, JUST BE NICE! Letting two more people in isn’t going to make you late for your job at the peanut factory. Just chill out. Think about how if you were that person, trying to merge, how you would want someone to let you in. It’s really just common courtesy, people. But most of all, more then just being nice, do me a favor. Please, please, PLEASE. Don’t stand in front of people’s trucks to let your friend in. It’s just not right.
