Here’s an exciting week to go to the movies, the first in a long time.
Seven Psychopaths
The filmmakers from In Bruges have come out with their latest dark comedy. The movie is about a struggling screenwriter (Collin Farrell) who becomes entangled in a criminal act performed by his screwball friends (Christopher Walken, and Sam Rockwell) who kidnap a mentally troubled gangster’s (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih tzu. Now “In Bruges” was a great movie made by the same guys and also starring Collin Farrell but the movie was extremely dark, possibly the darkest dark comedy I’ve ever seen and it still managed to be hilarious. So I have high hopes for their latest.
Here Comes the Boom
I’m not a huge Kevin James fan I just don’t find his humor terribly funny, to me he’s a fatter Adam Sandler. In Here Comes the Boom Kevin James plays a high school biology teacher and decides- so that the school won’t cut all the extra curricular activities- to become a UFC fighter in order to raise the money. Now it’s obviously a rip from Happy Gilmore, the Adam Sandler comedy in the nineties, and it just looks like it’s going to be bad. Maybe not awful but certainly not good, at least not better than Argo and Seven Psychopaths.
Argo
Here’s the one everyone’s excited about, since Ben Affleck has proved himself as a director in Gone Baby Gone and The Town everyone is surely excited for his latest. As tensions in Iran reach a boiling point, six people have taken cover in the Canadian ambassadors base.Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a plan to make a fake movie for a group of CIA specialists to enter the country without drawing to much attention. Now the cast for this movie is incredible, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Rory Cochrane (was Slater in Dazed and Confused for those who don’t know) Kyle Chandler, etc. There is nothing I like more than highly stylized and well made action film, which is what we’re surely to get.
