If you like musicals, youll love the Dear Evan Hansen movie

Dear Evan Hansen was a terrific movie! With the original Broadway musical winning 6 Tony Awards, the movie does not disappoint.

Many critics disagree with the choice of Ben Platt for Evan because he “looks too old to play a high schooler” but I would have to disagree.

With Ben Platt playing Evan in the original Broadway show, it only makes sense that he would know the character better than anyone. This is very well shown throughout the movie with Platt giving his character life through his mannerisms and personality.

The movie also did a much better job than expected transitioning from speech to song. I was anticipating a choppy transition that didn’t move well. However, I was impressed with the fluidity of it all.

The overall story of Dear Evan Hansen is sure to get you crying with the heartfelt musical numbers. But, this does not mean the movie didn’t have flaws.

Near the end of the movie, the pace started to slow down and almost dragged to a stop. And although the music was phenomenal I do wish they had sung the whole Broadway track, though I do realize how difficult this would have been.

Overall I love the authenticness of this movie, showing a good representation of mental health while bringing awareness. Overall I am very surprised at the hate this movie is getting (though most of it is directed at Platt playing Evan) because I saw no major flaws in this movie.

The movie does a really good job of staying true to the Broadway musical and bringing the characters we know and love to the big screen.

Anyhow, I would highly recommend you see this movie if you have listened to the soundtrack or just wanna see it.
