Welcome back… to the couch

With the new year comes the renewal of our favorite shows. From comedies to reality TV, we all can admit to letting our resolutions go to waste while being glued to the TV screen.

Portlandia This uncommon show features the hilarity of Saturday Night Live through the obscure scenes from a ‘feminist bookstore’ to a doily shop. Spotlighting post comedians and various celebrities, this show is “So up in the air that it’s randomness makes it hilarious,” sophomore Grace McDaniel said. “Portlandia is so quirky and it truly takes humor to a whole new dimension.”

Pretty Little Liars This intriguing show attracts teenage girls who crave the drama of four high school girls caught up in a mysterious past. Pretty Little Liars is sure to please the female population of Johnson High, unless anonymous texts, dramatic breakups, and attractive actors risking their lives for their girlfriends isn’t your forte. “I get so excited for these episodes that I clear my schedule to be sure I don’t miss an episode,” freshman Hannah Stadler said. “This show is great because the of the suspense, it’s so unpredictable.”

The Bachelor Love, drama, jealousy, 25 determined women, and one lucky man sound like the perfect recipe for disaster, but instead they are the fine tuned components of a hit TV show- The Bachelor. This show features women in a cut-throat competition for love, fame, and money, and one man trying his best to handle this hot mess. “I feel like the contestants are just attention-seekers who want their chance at fame. They could care less about the guy,” sophomore Dominique Gutierrez said. “Why would they care about this complete stranger they met on TV? it’s just a competition for fame.”

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo This show highlights the life of a redneck family from Georgia whose claim to fame belongs their seven year old beauty pageant star, Alana Thompson. This show will please those who enjoy a good laugh at a family whose lack of manners goes hand in hand with muddin’ on the weekends or dumpster diving for ‘treasures.’ “It’s interesting to see whether or not the fame will go to their heads, but they actually don’t spend all of the money because she won’t be ‘Honey Boo Boo’ forever,” sophomore Madison Cave said.
