Shakespeare Returns to the Johnson Theatre

Shakespeare Returns to the Johnson Theatre

After celebrating the success of the Johnson Theatre Department’s production of Hamlet, the crew is already preparing for another, highly anticipated, Shakespearian-themed play. “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” is a two-act parody about nine friends who decide to act out all of Shakespeare’s thirty-two plays in one night.

“Basically it’s about a nine people theatre group who get together and try to do every Shakespeare play in one night,” junior Hunter Wulff, cast member, said. “We take bits and pieces and combine [the plays] together to make it funny. We play several characters each, and it’s a combination of different things.”

This comedic take on the plays is sure to attract a large audience, especially after students’ warm reception of Hamlet.

“[Hamlet] was really good; I enjoyed it. I was explaining it to my mother, and my step-dad was overhearing it; he read the play before, and while I was explaining, he kept saying ‘Yes, that’s correct.’ So they got everything [accurate]. I want [The Complete Works] to be hilarious. Well, I hope that’s how it’s going to be. Yeah, I want to go see it,” junior Shanik Trevino said.

The cast will be reprising all of Shakespeare’s theatrical works, including “Romeo and Juliet”, “Macbeth”, “A Midsummer’s Night Dream”, and “Hamlet” once more.

“[My favorite parts are] the ‘Othello Rap’ and ‘Hamlet’. [Both are] really funny,” junior Anika Glass, cast member, said.

Tickets for “The Complete Works” will go on sale Monday, November 8.  The play will premier on Thursday, November 11.
