For Johnson’s boys varsity soccer it’s been a crazy year. Many ups and downs over the course of the year and no sign of consistency. They started off extremely hot not allowing a goal for the first ten games. They then opened district play vs Macarthur and struggled and fell 2-1. District started rough and they have recently regained their confidence they are now sitting with a district record of 5-5-1 with only one game remaining against Madison. They are still arguably having the best season ever here at Johnson.
“We feel good about where we are but we know our season had the potential to be much better, we just need to perform better under the pressure of big games,” junior Devlin Gilligan said
The Jags just recently locked their spot in the playoffs with a district win over lee giving them their first playoff berth in school history. They want to capitalize off their playoff chance and become one of the dominant forces in the district. This is going to be a one shot thing due to their loss of many seniors next season. They have gotten this far and now will have an opportunity to go even farther.
“We had two goals all year – one was to win district which we were unable to do and the other was to get to the playoffs which we were able to accomplish so we know we will have to practice hard and the opportunity is ours for the taking,” Gilligan said
