Once the school year ends, most of the athletes who played a sport this year will be left with less opportunity to train and work on their abilities. But camps held at Johnson this year will give many jags an opportunity to work on their games all while training at the school and gaining more familiarity with the coaches and players.

“The camps are great because we are all able to train and lift together,” sophomore Dominik Metz, who plays football, said.

Many jags are not able to attend these camps because they are on vacation. Despite the difficulty, a good amount of athletes make the trip to the school each morning.

“It’s difficult to make it to the camps because most of it takes place when people are on vacation during the summer ,” sophomore Austin Kopp, who plays football, said.

The camps help many of the players improve their game while keeping themselves in game shape. Players are able to work out and improve their endurance while being given the chance to prove themselves to the coaches before the season starts by doing things like running, lifting weights, and doing certain workouts like ab workouts.

“They are very helpful because we are able to work on our strength and stay in shape,” Metz said.

Going to the school and working out as a team also helps everyone on the team develop good chemistry with each other. The camps provide the players a valuable team bonding experience.

“The camps are important because they give us the opportunity to get to know the players who were able to make it to the camp,” Kopp said.

The coaches make the players do difficult drills so they are able to improve their conditioning for the upcoming season. Each workout helps improve a certain part of each player’s game.

“We do things like lifting and ab workouts which help improve our strength and our athletic abilities,” Kopp said.

These summer camps at the school provide the players the opportunity to improve their game in front of the coaches and gain experience playing alongside their teammates before the season. They give the players momentum and confidence heading into the season.

“It makes you faster and stronger while helping you become a better all-around player,” sophomore Justin Parker, who plays basketball, said.
