Johnson High school’s sophomore and junior class are signed up to take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT), also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“The PSAT benefits sophomores for practice, but for the juniors it can qualify them for the National Merit Program which will allow them to earn many merit scholarships for their college career,” counselor Caty Broderick said.

At Johnson high school we have had four national merit finalists which is the most Johnson has ever had and the most in the NEISD school district.

“This is nationally recognized program where students can earn a full ride to college so it’s highly prestigious, not many students at each school can earn that honor,” Broderick said.

The PSAT will be on Wednesday October 16 and it is a four hour test that starts at 9:00 am and ends at noon.

“We highly recommend and require those students to take the test because its only to their benefit in the long run,” Broderick said.
