The sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy is now in theaters. But does the latest Marvel blockbuster live up to the hype?
Our favorite band of galaxy guardians are back on the big screen, facing another threat. We have Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt, and Zoe Saldana as Gamora. Bradley Cooper plays the talking raccoon known as Rocket, and former wrestler Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. And of course, we have Baby Groot voiced by Vin Diesel (although you can’t tell). But the real standout of the movie, I feel, is the character Yondu played by Michael Rooker. We get to learn a new backstory for him, he’s more likable, and he plays a big part in the movie. The chemistry between all the actors and characters is phenomenal once again. You really do get a good sense that they’re like a family. The new additions to the franchise include Sylvester Stallone who plays a small role, and Kurt Russell, Star Lord’s father. Russell’s performance was great, and he played a part in the story I wasn’t expecting.
As far as entertainment value goes, the movie is 100% perfect. There are so many funny jokes and moments that will have everybody in the theater laughing. The second movie even tops the first one in that department. From start to finish, the movie will have you engaged and giggling. However, as far as storytelling goes, it’s not as coherent as the first one. In the beginning, the movie kind of bounces around and doesn’t seem to be going in any direction. It takes awhile to figure out what the story is leading to.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is great popcorn flick for the family. It’s hilarious and has characters you can love.
