This year’s boys basketball season is already off to a good start, with the Varsity team having a lead of seven to one.
“Well, boys basketball is off to a great start. At this time we’ve played one tournament and won that tournament in the SACs tournament against some very good public and private schools,” assistant coach Randy Schuster said. “I think the team has good depth and [that they] play good together. They are very energetic and very enthusiastic on the floor, [and] they are a fun bunch of guys to work with.”
The boys basketball team will have a tournament this week against Pflugerville and another tournament next week against Brandeis as well.
“Well we have tournaments again this week and the following week, so we will be playing quite a few games in a short amount of time which really tests our knowledge of what we are doing and it puts us in multiple situations where we have to know different offenses and even utilize some of our defensive [strategies] to counteract out opponents so it’s really a great preparation tool for us leading into district right after Christmas,” Schuster said.
In the previous season, boys basketball won district which means that they are the defending district champions for this season.
“That’s our first goal [which] is seeing if we can defend our title from the previous season,” Schuster said. “So uh it’s really important that we have that goal in front of us and certainly with the team we have that’s a very strong possibility this year as well.”
The boys basketball team hopes to see future success as the season moves to district.
“I think [the season has been] very enjoyable, it’s been very rewarding as far as watching these players that have progressed from the previous years and their levels have gotten better both individually and certainly we have seen a big, strong growth in team cooperation,” Schuster said. “I think they really enjoy working together and I think that’s the most important part about being on a team, that you can get along and enjoy being with each other.”
