A Day To Remembers Album, Homesick

Twenty-Ten welcomed and ushered in a gargantuan variety of new tunes over the air waves and into this generation’s pop culture crazes. Now that the beginning year of the new decade is over, a look back onto the most influential and lasting musical innovations is required…and a couple of my personal favorites.

It was originally only meant to be a sequel to his 2009 return Relapse, but Recovery shot Shady up the Billboard charts at ludicrous speed, selling more than three million copies. The songs are strong, fierce, and sharp tongued, leaving it’s mark with hit singles like “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie”. The album includes featured spots with such music icons as Rhianna, Lil’ Wayne, and P!nk. Recovery made Eminem’s come-back official.

The Black Keys-Brothers

The album is most known for it’s single “Tighten Up”, but it deserves so much more credit. ‘Brothers’ has an ultra sultry, reminiscent  ’70’s funk that just flows from song to song, combining with some electric suave guitar, not unlike Hendrix (as heard on “Black Mud”), and slapped with the Alternative genre. It’s hard to classify the Black Keys though because of all the different varying styles flowing through their songs. Brothers sounds like R&B for the modern hipster, in a good way. It’s hard to believe it’s two white guys from Ohio behind this entire scene.

A Day to Remember-What Separates Me from You

After four albums, ADTR has yet to release a disappointing track. Their sound and image have kept the same components that got them noticed but they haven’t become repetitious, lazy, or stale. The album goes from rhythmic downbeats and anthems to the downtrodden (“All Signs Point to Lauderdale”, “You Be Tails, I’ll Be Sonic”) to a total brutal, metal breakdown as in “2nd Sucks”. ADTR is bliss.

As an avid music listener, I feel like a number of worthy titles have gone missing.

One especially is Kanye West’s new album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” For one thing it has been named album of the year already by Rolling Stone and Ptichfork, has sold a substantial amount of copies considering his poor reputation and lack of pre-release singles. Finally, any listen of the epic (almost 100 minute) album shows his musical depth and genius.
