Dog Haus Biergarten is a fast food chain founded by Hagop Giragossian, Quasim Riaz and Andre Vener who opened their doors in their first location in Pasadena, California in 2010. Since then they have opened up in several locations across the country. The restaurant has two locations in San Antonio, and recently opened up a new location on Stone Oak Parkway. The restaurant has a wide variety of haus dogs, sausages, burgers, chicken, sliders, along with several other options. For vegetarians they even have a section of their menu dedicated to plant-based dishes. Although hot dogs is a dish more on the light and simplistic side, Dog Haus Biergarten has a very unique take on their signature haus dogs.
Within Dog Haus Biergarten’s haus dog’s section of their menu they have a wide selection of hot dogs such as “Sooo Cali,” “Pineapple Express,” “Old Town,” and “Downtown.” As well as the customer favorite the “Cowboy,” which is a smoked bacon wrapped dog, cheddar cheese sauce, crispy onions and BBQ sauce.
The “Mr. Miyagi” was the hog dog I selected. The way they presented the dish was its most alluring feature, the dish looked absolutely delectable. When taking the first bite the tempura crumbles and teriyaki sauce along with the caramelized onions each other giving more depth of flavor for the hotdog. What intrigued me the most was their use of King’s Hawaiian Rolls as a substitute for a traditional hot dog bun. Such a change gave the hot dog itself its own uniqueness, as well as adding an additional sweetness to the flavor of the dish.
I would later take their sausage dog, the “Das Brat,” which consists of bratwurst, caramelized onions, sauerkraut, and spicy brown mustard. Like the “Mr. Miyagi,” the sweetness of the caramelized onions along with the sweetness of the King’s Hawaiian Rolls complimented each other in such a way that it built the foundations of the flavor of the meal itself. With the sauerkraut and the spicy brown mustard gave the meal a smoky flavor. Dog Haus Biergarten gives hot dogs a unique modern taste filled with flavor and eccentricness.
