Surf’s up, It’s homecoming time

With homecoming  postponed for over a year now, Johnson Student Council is preparing for the long celebrated, mum giving, Texas tradition.

Student Council adviser Kristine Rogers has reserved various activities for the students to enjoy at the homecoming dance.

“At the dance we’re going to have a DJ, the same DJ we have at prom, we’re going to have karaoke in the cafeteria,” Rogers said. “We’re going to have a snack bar, so you can purchase candy or water; we’re only gonna have water because we also have Kona ice coming, so you can get cone ice for a dollar. And then we’re just going to have music and fun.”

With the absence of dances for over a year now, students are lining up to once again experience a night out with their friends.

“We’ve sold about 500 tickets so far. We ran out of shirts in the first six day: and we don’t have time to order more,” Rogers said. “So we are expecting, I hope, close to about a thousand. It’s been two years since we’ve had a school dance, so I’m hoping it’s really well attended.”

Student body president Kyla Holder is leading the council members in organizing this year’s homecoming.

“In the class periods that we have, I’m in charge of all the committees that are working for different areas of homecoming and having them know how they’re organizing everything,” Holder said. “On the day of homecoming, I’m overseeing how everything is being put up in the courtyard and making sure that all the committees know what they’re doing, and also assigning all the separate members to help work with the different committees.”

Tickets will costs $30 at the Jag sShack or $40 at the door.
