Picture the scene, it’s Thursday night, tomorrow is Valentine’s and you can barely scrape together five bucks for lunch. That’s where a quick trip to HEB can save you- and for less than $2 at that.
Overall this box isn’t too bad, especially considering the price. It’s got the basics – cheesy cover, bad clipart, cringy sentiment and a decent dose of chocolate. Each box contains two different flavors of fruity crème filling, two caramel fillings, and one truffle. I think it would have been a hundred times better if it weren’t for the two crème filled chocolates. The filling for both were overly sweet, slimy, and overpowered the chocolate. I think another truffle or maybe something with almonds would have been better than the crème filling.
Aside from the two crèmes, I was pleasantly surprised with the other three options. The two caramel filled pieces were a little chewy, but still enjoyable and the inclusion of dark chocolate was nice. The ganache filling for the truffle was smooth and had a slight artificial taste but it didn’t seem all that noticeable. My only complaint for these three is that the chocolate outer shell tasted like chocolate that had been sitting in a display for a few weeks, crumbling when you bite into it and having a slightly stale taste.
Price wise though this can’t be beat. At $1.45 for the whole box the chocolates average at about $0.29 each. It can fit just about any high schooler’s budget and can easily be done up with a nice card or one of those cheesy plushies. While it wouldn’t be my first recommendation it also wouldn’t be my last. Given the price I expected much less and was pleasantly surprised. No matter the quality though, I doubt anyone will be upset with receiving this as a sweet (get it?) gift this Valentine’s day.
