Its always hard to find the perfect dress-there seems to be the endless picking out, trying on, and then putting back up the dress because you’re just not quite satisfied with it. Oh, and then there’s the price. Not everyone can afford a $200 + dress that you’ll use for just one night, so here’s the places to hit up.
David’s Bridal: Has all prom dresses in stock 15% with a large in store and online collection. Whether you’re looking for a metallic to even a neon dress, this is the place to go.
Glamour Bridal: Beginning on April 1st, all prom stock is 15-20%, along with a bunch of other deals including having a photo shoot. If you don’t like the prom dresses, there’s still always the bridesmaid dresses!
Specialty stores Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom’s all have a fabulous selection, but absolutely nothing is on sale. It wouldn’t hurt to look around and see if you could find a dress that doesn’t cost an arm or an leg though, you may find exactly what you’re looking for.
Seniors Hannah Hornsby, Katelyn Stewart, and Kelsey Clark know first hand how to dress and impress for prom.
“Look online first to see what you can find,” Hornsby said, with Clark adding “If you look online and find your dress no one else will have it.”
If you have a bright and colorful dress, make sure your skin looks bright and golden so it contrasts well.
“My dress is a pinkish red, so I’ve been going to tanning beds* to get ready for prom,” Stewart said. “Fake bake is the way to go.”
Trying on a million dresses can be tedious, but never compromise or settle, there’s a dress for everyone out there.
“You know you’ve found the right dress when you cannot stop looking at yourself in it,” Hornsby said.
There’s always some prom no-no’s that you want to avoid at ALL costs.
“Getting a dress that doesn’t fit you,” Hornsby said, “Or when [the dress] is too short and shows your shoes.”
Last-but definitely not least-is the accessories. Find some that highlight your dress and aren’t too overwhelming.
“Wearing too much make-up and jewelry is a don’t, and when the jewelry doesn’t match,” Hornsby said.
*A suggested alternate to tanning beds is a spray tan, it’s much less harmful due to no exposure to UV rays. Make sure if you get a spray tan to do so at least 2 weeks prior to prom, so it has time to fade into just the right tone.
