Cross country is hot off their third meet of the season following a great run in the UTSA Classic this past Saturday. The meet was full of notable individual performances and respectable overall placings for both girls and boys.
“We did okay as a team,” sophomore runner Robert Ford said, “but considering the difficulty of the course, I’m proud of how we did.”
The course was even more challenging for the girls, as they were running a 5K instead of the normal two-mile race. The distance increase required an adjustment of strategy.
“The 5K was definitely a change of pace for us. It was a lot more difficult to run,” freshman Madison Campbell said. Campbell placed 15th out of more than a hundred runners.
The girls did great, with a pair of runners finishing in the top 20. That, combined with great performances from the team as a whole, earned the Jags seventh place in the team competition: just enough to beat rival Reagan.
“We didn’t perform as well as we should have. We can definitely do better this week,” Campbell said.
The boys finished the meet 21st overall, and plan to better that mark this weekend at the SAISD Meet. The team intends to improve as a group on the south side.
“I’m just hoping I make my time and my team improves on their overall performance.” Ford said.
The cross country runners did well, but expect that the best is still to come.
“We’re going to win district. The other teams don’t stand a chance,” Ford said.
