San Antonio is home to an immense and culturally diverse population, which is itself reason to provide events that make room for artistic appreciation. At the Instituto Cultrural de Mexico, located in downtown San Antonio, an annual, yet slightly obscure event, Fotoseptiembre. There international photographers, many with Latin American influences, are exhibited for the appreciation of San Antonio and visitors alike.

“This is why I love San Antonio, because it provides cultural awareness,” Spanish teacher Rosie Guerra said.

The photographs are graphic and detailed stories from countless artists using various styles and techniques that warp the reality of a commonplace photograph. The photographers are from far and wide, from Mexico to Taiwan and places in between.  Featured artists include Daniel Lee and his portfolio “Animal Instinct,” and Jennifer Shaw for “Hurricane Story.”

“There’s such a variety of cultural activities you see in San Antonio. This exhibition is one of those that offers cultural insight,” Guerra said.

The galleries are open until October 1, where the Instituto Cultural is only closed on Mondays. For more information on the event, please visit www.fotoseptiembreusa.com.
