Johnson’s Varsity Boys team reigned supreme after their first victory in both regional and state competitors at the Texas Shoot- Out.
“We had a pretty good season, we had some strong finishes. We’re gonna be a real threat next year when we compete in state,” sophomore Christian De La Cruz said.
Both Christian De La Cruz and junior Jake Boggus lead the team with rounds of 306-300 which secured a 10 and 11 stroke win against our rivals Churchill and Reagan. Boggus posted rounds of 77-75 and junior Jake Goodman rounds of 79-77.
“Basically, the boys played really well this weekend. They practice a lot and it showed at this competition. Every time they compete they seem like they’re improving,” junior Jon Lucas said.
With the end of the Fall Season the boys can rest easy knowing all of their hard work has paid off. Ending their season with 2 tournament victories, a runner-up and two top 10 finishes, the team went undefeated in the NEISD Fall Match Play schedule.
“We perform pretty good as a team. We are expecting that our spring season is gonna be ten times better, because we’re just going to work a lot harder than we did this past season,” freshman Taylor Coleman said.
