Prom dresses on a budget

By Ivey McDaniel| Staff Writer

The newest trend in prom dresses- the high low dress.

It’s that time of year again: prom. While guys are trying to find the most creative way to ask a girl, and what kind of corsage to buy, girls are stressing out about how their going to look. The battle to get a perfect hair-do, nails, make-up, shoes, accessories, and yes, a jaw-dropping dress, have officially commenced; and not at a cheap price. You should look and feel gorgeous on prom night, but with gowns costing around $300, it can be somewhat difficult to find something reasonably priced, that also looks amazing.

"Whats the best kind of dress? The cheap kind!"

1.) Prom Girl

Who’s to trust more than a sight that dedicates themselves to finding that perfect dress?  Prom Girl makes it super simple to find the dress that you’re looking for. Prom Girl has numerous sizes, a wide selection of styles, and different colors. The sight also has a search engine that will customize your search from price to neckline.

2.) Department Stores

Alright, a department store seems like a rather pricey option, but think again! Many stores have a surplus of dresses, and you can usually pick something up cute from last year at a discounted price. Stores like Macy’s have sections in the store dedicated to prom dresses and sales assistants more than willing to help you find the perfect dress on a budget.

3.) Rent the Runway

Let’s be honest, when will you ever wear your prom dress again? Most hang in the back of your closet, or have become a new sequined-thing to scratch on for your cat.

A simple, classy Nicole Miller dress available- for less than you'd think.

That’s why the website ‘Rent the Runway’ is an awesome alternative, and will save you extra closet space. The site, as suggested, rents out designer dresses for a fraction of the price. The dress is yours for up to eight days, the company dry cleans the gown before it’s sent, they’ll send two other sizes so you know the dress will fit. Also, you choose your dates of delivery. You can rent a $640 Nichole Miller gown, a $598 TIBI dress, a $495 Shoshana dress, and many others for around $100. The sight has literally hundreds of dresses to choose from, and they’re all stunning.

4.) Arden B

If you’re looking to make a statement by wearing a short dress to prom, this is the site to buy from. The website has a nice variety of classy dresses under $100 that display current trends such as nudes, high-low lengths, pastels, ombrés, and mints.

5.) My Girl Dress

This sight has an overwhelming selection of dresses. With bright colors and patterns, and many dresses under $150, finding a dress is pretty easy.
