During the week of April 1st through the 4th, freshmen, sophomore, and juniors will be taking the STAAR EOC exam, while seniors participate in alternative activities during this week.
“Activities that seniors will be participating in can be found on the Johnson website on the senior link, it has all the events there with a parent letter that everyone can read,” assistant principal Tracy Anderson said.
Some seniors feel relieved that this is the year that they finally get to relax and not worry about taking an exam.
“It’s cool that after being here for three and a half years that we get to enjoy time with our peers instead of having to do school work,” senior Erik Ghent said. “When I was a junior I was irate when I had to take the TAKS or an EOC and the seniors got to just sit around and watch a movie. I am glad it’s my turn to do that.”
Senior class officers is the organization in charge of planning senior class events.
“I know we’re going to Alamo Drafthouse to see a movie one day during the STAAR week, we also have some activities planned with Chick-fil-a catering and we’ll have some DJ’s as well. The movie we see will be based on what comes out around that time,” senior class President Raquel Kimm said.
This year will be the first year that seniors are not allowed to have late arrival during the exam days.
“Unfortunately, we are the one year that cannot have senior late arrival days because the NEISD law says that we can’t have that day unless all grade levels are testing at the same time,” Kimm said.
The senior class has been active in voicing their opinions over how to spend the testing time.
“It would be cool if one of the testing days we went to Main Event,” Erik Ghent said.
Senior class officers are listening to their classmates’ ideas and trying to incorporate their suggestions with senior activities.
“We have meetings once a week to discuss what ideas would be cool and we call the places we are thinking about going. We definitely take into account everything people say in the senior class and all of their ideas, the only reason we don’t use their ideas sometimes is because it may go against district rules and we have to keep things professional,” Kimm said.
The deadline to turn in off campus senior activities permission slips is soon approaching.
“Seniors make sure to turn in permission slips before spring break otherwise you cannot go to the movies during the testing days,” Kimm said.
