Every year, throughout the holiday season comes the postseason of college football where seasons are defined. However this is the last the year of the BCS which is a system of computers ranks the teams and puts them into the games based on record and strength of schedule. Next year will feature a playoff season and relief for many programs who feel they have deserved a more prestigious bowl game. Despite this controversy the level of excitement never ceases throughout all the games.
“The most entertaining game this bowl season has to be the National Title game of Florida State versus Auburn. They are in the title game for a reason because they are the two best teams in the nation. This is what everyone has been waiting and it will live up to its hype of an offensive explosion,” junior Zack Koboldt said.
Offense is what the fans want to see and sets college football apart from the pros. Scoring is what entertains and is prominent throughout the country. However there is one bowl game in particular that should exceed its expectations in a rout.
“The Chick-fil-a Bowl should be the highest scoring because it features the Duke Blue Devils and the Texas A&M Aggies. A&M has an extremely high powered offense lead by the defending Heisman trophy winner, Johnny Manziel,” Koboldt said.
Despite the common the nature of high scoring in bowl games, the score can drastically change based on the matchup. This is the case in this year’s Rose bowl.
“The Rose Bowl will not be a shootout because Stanford and Michigan State have two of the top defenses in the country. This will be a great game because it will be an actual gridiron football game full of hard hitting and turnovers,” Koboldt said.
Following a bowl game schools look to next year because they will not have all their players returning. The graduating or draft eligible players prepare to start their professional careers and their bowl games are a great place to showcase their talent.
“Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M has the most to prove during his game because he needs to prove to his scouts that he has what it takes to be a successful NFL quarterback,” junior Garret Sifuentez said.
Manziel is not the only one that has something to prove. The star running back for the Auburn Tigers, who are playing for a National, has something to say about it. That running back is Tre Mason and he has moved himself into contention for the Heisman trophy.
“Tre Mason has the most to prove because when you rush for nearly 300 yards in a huge game like the SEC title game you deserve the recognition,” junior Michael Robles said. “He also put up those video game stats against a great defense in the Missouri Tigers.”
