When school lets out on Monday, Nov. 4 for early dismissal, seniors will be treated to a rare sight of inflatables and oversized games on campus.
Beginning at 3:30 pm, the campus will host its first senior field day.
“We thought that seniors would like to have something fun to do after all the stress of first semester,” senior officer Lucas Wessel said. “To bring them back to their elementary school days with a field day kind of event.”
With rigorous planning and numerous activities, it’s expected to be a blast for the seniors.
“I think at first people will be apprehensive about it, but then when they show up they’ll have fun and enjoy themselves,” Wessel said. “There’s going to be inflatables. An inflatable obstacle course, inflatable slide. Plenty of field games, like giant Jenga. And we’re going to have hamster balls too where you can run into each other.”
Students are welcome to bring their own games and activities as well, with free snacks and water provided. Junior class officers will be supervising and running the event as a chance to get volunteer hours for this senior only event.
“We want seniors to come out and have fun. Bring your friends, bring out the seniors, and come have fun, make some memories,” senior class sponsor Megan Cobb said. “It’s going to take place on Monday, November 4th, from 3:30 to 5:30 because that’s an early release day.”
This event will be funded by the dues each senior pays. However, all seniors are invited to attend – even if they have not yet paid their dues.
“I think it’ll, you know, bring students back up a little bit. As for those that attend, I definitely think that it’ll give them that break that we all need,” senior Matthew Gooch said. “And then it’ll be Thanksgiving break and then Thanksgiving break will give, you know, some time to relax.”
With all the stressors during senior year, this is expected to be a nice break for the senior class.
“As a senior, that’s even more so because you’re doing college applications, you’re trying to find work. You’ve got, you know, all these things going on,” Gooch said. “So I think this is kind of a way to alleviate and give us a break from all the schoolwork and the cramming for college applications and stuff.”
And since senior year is the last year that students have to make grade school memories, the senior class sponsor and officers are hoping this becomes an annual event.
“We’re hoping for a really fun event for our seniors to come out. It’s just, honestly, it’s just a fun time for seniors to hang out with each other and bond before they all go their own ways in life,” Cobb said. “We have lots of events in the spring for seniors to be together, up to and including graduation. This is our first year trying something in the fall just to create that camaraderie and create memories.”
